Description: The reading room of the Antico Palazzo Rospgiliosi was formerly
the living room of this prestigious former Cardinal Giulio
Rospigliosi's house and no doubt the place where,
as a famous librettist of the day, penned the famous Opera
Sant'Alessio with music by Stefano Landi. Look around
any you will see some of his works together with scientific
journals and other literary periodicals of the time... there
are even a couple of scientific instruments belonging to another
former resident Giovanni Giustino Ciampini who wrote the first ever Italian scientific journal the "Giornale
de' Letterati" whilst living in the Antico Palazzo Rospigliosi.
The reading room is now on the first floor of the building
because In 1870 the road directly in front of the hotel was
lowered by 4 meters. The main entrance of the hotel and stair
case is the newest part of the property having been added
only 135 years ago. |
